The prostate is the male reproductive gland that makes the fluid that carries sperm. It surrounds the urethra, the tube urine passes through to leave the body. As men age, the prostate often grows and presses on the urethra, which can cause urinary pain or problems.
An enlarged prostate is often called benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH.
Symptoms of an enlarged prostate include:
- Inability to urinate
- Incontinence or dribbling at the end of urination
- Painful or frequent urination
- Sudden urge to urinate
At Novant Health Urology Partners Brunswick, we use rectal exams and urine tests to diagnose an enlarged prostate. We are also pleased to be the only provider in the area to offer Urolift BPH treatment. Learn more about this procedure at Urolift.com.
Please call us to schedule an appointment for a prostate exam or to discuss any of the symptoms listed above.
